We are the Lit-Chat Ladies! Our group has been in existence for over 5 years. It was founded in July of 2009, out of the desire to expand our horizons, meet new people, and just have fun discussing one of our favorite things to do -- reading! After weeks of emailing each other, our first face-to-face meeting was on September 16, 2009, We were a group of six total strangers who came together by answering a post on Craig's List.
We meet every three to four weeks to discuss preselected books. Our books are chosen either by secret ballot, suggestions or majority vote. We read a variety of genres. We meet locally, taking turns in each county. We each come from a variety of different backgrounds and ages. We span in age from the 20's to the 50's; our average age is 32. Any age is welcome!
In this age there are many cyber-bookclubs; we are the real flesh and blood thing! Our meetings are semi-structured. There is no single leader. We talk about our overall opinion of the book and then we read off a few published discussion questions. Then we chat a bit about our lives and go on our way. The meetings last about an hour and a half to two hours, depending on how much we have to say about our selection.
We have read over 60 books. The Great Gatsby; One Thousand Splendid Suns; The Gurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society; The Help; The Know-it-all; The Art of Racing in the Rain; Middlesex; Thank You for All Things; Whisper in the Dark; The Turn of the Screw; The Road; One Thousand White Women; Push; Sarah's Key; Lolly Willows; The Madonna's of Echo Park and many more. We dedicate one month to Free Read. You pick your own book and them come and talk about it!
We are always open to accepting new members. Please email me directly or at our group page litchatladies@yahoo.com
